Mrs. Tara Kumar

Senior Early Intervention Teacher

M.Ed (SpEd), AdvDip (Early Childhood Intervention), CIA

Tara has been teaching in Singapore since 2006. She taught in Shuqun Primary School as an allied educator from 2006 to 2011. She worked with young children with special needs in Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) Early Intervention Centre and Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA) Early Intervention Centre from 2011 to 2020. Tara has experiences working with children, aged 2 to 12, with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Speech Delay, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down syndrome and with other syndromes (Cri-du-chat (cat's cry) syndrome, Achondroplasia (Dwarfism) syndrome, Angelman Syndrome).

Tara pursued her Master of Education specialising in Special Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapore in 2018. She completed the course Certificate in Autism from Social Service Institute (NCSS) in 2015 and Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (ADECI) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 2014. She also attended the Asia Pacific Autism Conference in 2019.


Besides teaching, Tara was involved in curriculum planning, enrolment assessment and adult training. She worked on curriculums for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Cerebral Palsy. She conducted assessments for new enrolments across the various early intervention centres that she worked at. She conducted training for new and beginner teachers on Autism Spectrum Disorders, Behavioural Management, Structured Teaching and Visual strategies. She also worked with parents and mainstream kindergarten teachers to provide them with strategies in managing their child/ student at home and in their school.

Tara believes that “There is a star in every child” and it is the responsibility of a teacher to brighten up the star in each child.
