Ms. Ellenca Sim

Deputy Senior Early Intervention Teacher

BA (Psych)

Ellenca graduated from University at Buffalo (Singapore) in the Bachelor of Arts (Psychology). During her period of study, she was focused on learning more about children with needs and took on relevant modules such as Abnormal Childhood Disorders and Personality Disorders. While pursuing her degree, she provided home-based behavioral therapy and shadow support to children in preschools, and has helped the transition of these children to mainstream primary school. Concurrently, she worked as a Part-Time Teaching Specialist at Cognitive Development Learning Centre, which has further widened her exposure and experience managing children with diverse needs such as Dyslexia and Selective Mutism.

In her past years of teaching experiences, Ellenca has worked with both mainstream children and children of diverse needs mainly Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, and behavioral and learning difficulties. Previously part of the pioneer team in an inclusive preschool, she helped to set up and managed and train a team of teachers in using various methods to support students of different profiles in an inclusive school setting. She also initiated and formulated an in-house assessment checklist, which has supported the better screening and streaming of students according to their needs. As such, she is familiar with the curriculum and demands of mainstream schools and is able to help children bridge their learning gaps effectively.

Ellenca advocates that every child should be given an equal learning opportunity and viewed with the potential for growth. She believes in providing a nurturing environment that involves the support and collaboration of peers, family members, caregivers, teachers, therapists, and other stakeholders who seeks to achieve the same goal for the child.
